Register Now for Trinity Days

Christians and Muslims traditionally and historically recognize Scripture as central to their faith. Both also recognize the importance and complexity of applying Scripture to a contemporary context. Join the Trinity community on Thursday, September 30, during Trinity Days 2010, when noted scholar of Islamic Studies, Dr. Mahmoud Ayoub of Hartford Seminary, Connecticut, and Dr. Rod Hutton of Trinity address the texts that pose a particular challenge.

Dr. Ayoub will provide the T.A. Kantonen lecture at 11:30 a.m. A second lecture will take place at 1:30 p.m. and include a response from Dr. Hutton. The lectures conclude with a panel discussion and question-and-answer session at 2:45 p.m.

The cost for the lectures and catered lunch is $50.

Other Trinity Days events include the annual alumni dinner Thursday evening and a homecoming flag football game and barbecue on Friday. The Alumni Council will meet Wednesday, September 29. For more information on these and additional alumni events, click here.

Schenk Chapel Receives New Baptismal Font

The Rev. Henry J. Langknecht, Haman-Pfahler Professor of Christian Communications, associate professor of homiletics, and worship life coordinator, dedicates the new baptismal font in Schenk Chapel during worship on January 11.
A baptismal font designed by artist Kerry Pierce, of Lancaster, Ohio, was dedicated in Schenk Chapel during worship on January 11, 2010.

Design and construction of the font was funded through a gift provided by the Stellhorn Foundation, which was established in 1970 by the grandchildren of Dr. Frederick William Stellhorn. Frederick Stellhorn served as president of Capital University (1894-1900) and dean of the seminary (1908-1919).

Members of the Stellhorn Foundation meet each year to designate gifts to Trinity and Capital. Last year, Trinity received grant money for the font, hymnals, and a paschal candle in Schenk. Between 2005 and 2007, Trinity received $18,000 to purchase new chairs for Schenk. Other gifts have included scholarships for students, wall crosses for seven classrooms, handbells, altar paraments and student vestments, and African art.
