The Master of Arts in Lay Ministry, which can be earned in two years of full-time
study or in an equivalent amount of part-time work, is a degree program for those who are
engaged in or intend to become non-ordained church workers. In cooperation with the School
of Nursing of Capital University, a dual-degree program is available through which a student
who already possesses the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree may concurrently earn a
Master of Science in Nursing degree at the School of Nursing and a Master of Arts in Lay
Ministry degree at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. A student seeking such degrees will make
application at both schools.
Admission to the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Lay Ministry degree program is based on
evidence of ability to undertake satisfactory graduate work. In addition to the general
requirements for all students, specific requirements for admission include:
- The degree of Bachelor of Arts or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Letters of reference attesting to academic ability and personal qualifications.
- Autobiographical statement of purpose and vocational intent.
Advising Procedures. In addition to the advisor of the M.A. in Lay Ministry program,
who will work with the student in designing an individual program of instruction, each entering
student will be assigned a faculty advisor for purposes of I-Group participation.
